Being an Artist in the Western Downs

Western Downs Region was created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007.

Prior to 2008 the region consisted of five local government areas: the Town of Dalby, the Shire of Chinchilla, the Shire of Murilla, the Shire of Tara, the Shire of Wambo and Division 2 of the Shire of Taroom

Each of these local government areas brought with them a long history of Arts and Culture interactions, events and institutions. These include arts groups, art galleries, and Arts and Culture events.

Western Downs artists have a choice of several art galleries to display or sell their works:

  • Lapunyah Art Gallery, Chinchilla

  • Gallery107@Dalby

  • Dogwood Crossing@Miles

  • Bell Art Group and Bluebelles Art Gallery, Bell

  • Myall Park Botanic Gardens and Art Gallery

  • The Melon Festival Exhibition (Lapunyah Art Gallery - a biennial event)

  • The Bell Art Exhibition (yearly)

  • The Tara and District Art Exhibition

Arts and Crafts Groups include:
