Angelique Delport, The unseen journey, acrylic on canvas, 51cm x 76cm, $175
Angelique Delport
My work explores the quiet spaces between memory, loss, resilience, and renewal through the recurring image of the leafless tree. Rather than representing absence, these trees speak of endurance, transformation, and the unseen connections that continue to shape us. Set within expressive, often abstracted landscapes, they invite contemplation rather than explanation.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, I incorporate natural bark, tissue paper, and impasto to create layered surfaces that echo the textures of time, weather, and lived experience. These tactile elements become part of the painting's narrative, blurring the boundary between the natural world and the imagined.
I am drawn to abstraction because it allows space for personal interpretation. Rather than directing the viewer toward a single meaning, I hope each painting becomes a place of quiet reflection, where individual memories, emotions, and stories can emerge. For me, art is not about providing answers, but about creating a visual language that invites wonder, stillness, and a deeper connection to what lies beneath the visible.
